Picture1  Speake the Speech

Long before Stanislavsky and Strasberg, an Acting Coach named Shakespeare laid the building blocks of successful presentation and performance for his actors at the Globe Theatre.  Back in the Elizabethan era, people went to hear a play, not to see it as we think of it today.  Through the First Folio of 1623, untouched by modern editors, students will learn techniques employed by the Royal Shakespeare Company actors.  Clues to understanding how Shakespeare heard his lines performed will become part of the student’s repertoire.  Instead of fearing the poetic structuring, imagery and wordiness, the actor will learn to employ these as friendly tools, indispensable to character development, inspirational suggestion, scene dynamics, and audience understanding and appreciation.  Through proper verse handling and stage direction within his works, students will come to trust Shakespeare, The Actor/Director.  These techniques will not only benefit the actor, but anyone interested in acuteness of expression and vocal authority as applied to public speaking and presentation, as modern applications are brought to bear.  Emphasis is laid on relaxation, vocal control, self-confidence and a commanding presence.

The classes will be taught by Joseph Mooney (see Available Talent page). Tuesday OR Thursday nights beginning September 12 from 7-10 PM in the Moorestown HS Choral Room. $150.00 for 5 three-hour classes.

Funding is made possible in part by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts from a grant to the Burlington County Board of Chosen Freeholders, Department of Resource Conservation, Division of Parks, Office of Cultural & Heritage Affairs.
